About Joshua Kaizuka

With over 25 years of experience, Joshua Kaizuka is a proven criminal defense attorney who fights to protect his clients’ rights. A former Deputy Public Defender in Yolo County and civil rights attorney, he brings deep courtroom experience and a strategic edge to every case.

Josh has successfully defended thousands of clients in both adult and juvenile cases—from minor charges to serious felony strike offenses. He handles every stage of the process, including jury trials, always focused on getting the best possible result.

His practice covers DUI, domestic violence, assault, drug offenses, and theft, with particular strength in cases involving mental health issues and alternatives to incarceration.

Known for his preparation and relentless advocacy, Josh delivers straightforward advice, personalized attention, and results that matter.

Education & Admissions

Josh received his bachelors in Government at Sacramento State, his J.D. from University of Pacific McGeorge School of Law with a concentration in Advocacy and awarded memberships to The Order of Barristers and The Traynor Society. In addition to being a member of the California State Bar, he is also admitted to practice in the U.S. Federal Courts for the Eastern and Northern District Courts of California.

In addition to his legal work, Josh is on the board of various non-profit organizations including Asian/Pacific Bar Association of Sacramento (ABAS), ABAS Law Foundation. He also volunteers time for the Pro Bono 1983 Panel for the U.S. Eastern District Court, judging law school competitions, guest speaking/lecturing at local colleges, mentoring law students, helping homeless organizations, and pro bono legal work involving First Amendment issues.

Josh is a member of the California Public Defender’s Association (CPDA), Criminal Attorney for Justice (CACJ), California DUI Lawyers Association (CDLA), Sacramento County Bar Association (SCBA), American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), National Asian Pacific American Bar Association(NAPABA), Asian American Criminal Trial Lawyers Association (AACTLA), and the Florin Japanese American Citizens League (Florin-JACL).
